Spending time in and on the water is one of my favorite meditative activities. Water is incredibly soothing and calming. We live in the mountains, and so if we want to get to the ocean for adventures like scuba diving, there is always a lot of planning involved.
Although there are many destinations around the world that have been touted as the best scuba diving areas, there are also several scuba diving sites just in the US. In this post, I am goingto explore and include some of the finer places renowned for being hot scuba diving spots, as well as touch upon some fashion ideas for once you are back upon land! Sure, why not? Read on for more. Here are five of the most highly rated places to explore:
Hawaii: The big island boasts one of the best scuba diving adventures in the US. Scuba sites can be found in Kona and Kohala, with depths ranging from 10 feet to 130 feet. Cavern Point, Place of Refuge, Kailua Pine Trees, and Red Hill are also well-known scuba sites.
Monterey, California: Known as the best beach in the US, Monterey is one of the premier areas for scuba divers. With over 5000 square miles of water and with visibility of up to 60 feet, this is one of the most popular scuba diving destinations. The specific areas to go to in Monterey include McAbee Beach and San Carlos Beach, Stillwater Cove and Monastery Beach in Carmel, and Whaler’s Cover and Bluefish at Point Lobos (you have access to an underwater trail at these sites).
Catalina Island: Known for its reefs, shark schools, and kelp forests, Catalina Island offers a good visibility from 40 feet to 100 feet. Two Harbors, located on the north-west side of the island, is a great scuba site due to its wrecks and vast caves. Casino Point Marin Park is rich in marine life, reefs, and wrecks.
Newport, Rhode Island: Scuba diving enthusiasts from the east coast flock to this coastal city. Complete with scuba diving training, you can find the Dumplings, a dive site that features lobster, crabs, and rocks covered with anemone. It should be noted that this area is intended for experienced divers only. Moreover, the ever popular wreck dives can be arranged through the many dive charters offered here.
Florida: Ranked among the top ten scuba diving destinations worldwide, as well as the best in North America, you can dive along the Gulf Coast and the Atlantic Coast. Here you will find a variety of species, including dolphins, sharks, giant turtles, sting rays, manatees, and more. The difference between the two coasts is that the Gulf Coast has better visibility, whereas the Atlantic Coast has more wrecks and reefs. Don’t forget your gear! You may also want to check out the Florida Keys for their exquisite tropical fish and delightfully warm water.
Cool post. I’d love to get a chance to scuba dive at Monterey Beach and in Newport. These locations are diverse and all seem rich in natural beauty. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you Emme 🙂 Monterey Beach does look amazing. And I would love to get myself back to Florida sometime soon!
