You are already a creator. Your life is your creation. Do you know anyone else with a life exactly like yours? While you may not have the life you desire, you were perfect at creating the life you have. What this suggests is that you have the power to create a new life for yourself and do it just as perfectly.
Recognize your power and claim it. Once you remember your innate ability as a creator, you can use this to forge the life you want! We humans are more powerful than most of us can imagine. This is not to buy into some fluffy belief system, but I’m sure we can all agree that our states of mind, when held in any certain position for any given length of time, will draw forth results.
And of course, there are things that we cannot control; but controlling everything is not the point. There needs to be a flexibility that we move with, in body, mind and spirit. When circumstances arise that we did not foresee, that we did not plan for or that we do not want – well, it may take some focus, but we can still do what we can to remember the power that we have within us to shift things. Sometimes, simply with a shift in reaction, we can bring ourselves to a shift in emotion. And this is where we will begin to see real results take form in our lives.
Here are some strategies you can use to recognize the power you hold to meet your goals and catalyze transformation:
Take full responsibility.
The first step is to take full responsibility for all the good and challenging things in your life. If you believe that you ultimately assisted in the creation of your personal experiences, then it’s easier to believe that you can change them.
Even if some of the things you wish to change aren’t really your fault, it is still 100% your responsibility to change them. There is simply no one else that can shift things in your life for you to the way that you want to see them. Taking full responsibility is critical if you want to change your life.
Look at your past successes.
Notice all of the good things you’ve accomplished in the past and how you brought them to fruition. Acknowledge the influence and the power you had in your successes.
When you take note of the positive shifts you’ve already had, it will be easier for you to stick to your game plan. This is because you have brought it into cognizant awareness. You can see it more clearly and this will help you to continue to be propelled forward.
Look at your past “failures.”
Notice the influence you had on things that may not have turned out the way you wanted. Maybe you inadvertently created a challenge or didn’t take positive action. Take responsibility for your part in the unfavorable result.
Learn to view failing as a positive (though unpleasant) outcome. What have you learned from past “failures” that can help you eventually succeed in your endeavors?
Set new goals.
Many people live like a feather blowing in the wind, never having a true direction. They want to be focused and make things happen, but they are pulled off center by a million other dreams, wishes, or fantasies. It is incredibly important to choose your destination. Leaving things to luck and chance is choosing not to use your power at all.
Consider that a sandcastle never spontaneously rises from the beach. You have to intentionally build a sandcastle for it to materialize. Luck and chance will never get the job done reliably, or significantly.
Reinforce your goals.
Each day, rewrite your goal and imagine how you’ll feel when you accomplish it. Focus on your priority rather than whatever your whims of the moment. Being in the moment is ideal, but with a continued inner focus towards your growth and forward movement – this is paramount. You might like my post on how to create process goals.
For example, you might want to go on a date with someone, but ultimately you want to remain single. You want a million dollars, but you always want to leave work early. Soon you’re contradicting yourself and it all gets the same low priority. Reinforce your goals daily, and they’ll become a priority over all the other noise that is occurring in your head.
Measure your progress. It’s important to constantly measure where you are against your goals.
If possible, measure every day.
Create a list of bullet points. Do this for each separate achievement that you wrote about following your visualization. For example, if one of your achievements is “I own my own home,” then you can list things like you are successfully saving for a down payment, that you’re making monthly mortgage payments, and you have a steady job.
Break each of these bullet points down into goals. For example, if one bullet point was to save for a down payment for the home you visualized, how can you get there? Create savings goals that will allow you to work toward having a down payment for your home.
If you’re trying to earn more money, how much money did you earn today? If you’re trying to lose weight, how many pounds did you lose? You can’t make the proper adjustments if you’re unaware of your progress.
Take a step closer to your goal each day, even if it’s a baby step.
Every day, do something to move forward toward the life you want. Ask yourself, “What did I do today to create the life I desire?” Close your eyes and imagine your future.
Where do you see yourself in a year, five years or ten? Try to think as far ahead as you comfortably can. Do you see yourself with a family, children, a steady job, and a college degree in ten years?
Revisit your plan consistently. Visualizations, dreams, and hopes change over time. Revisit the plan that you laid out and the future goals that you dreamed up on a consistent basis to ensure their relevancy over time. It’s okay to change your dreams and goals based on your needs and desires as they change.
Try to have as vivid a visualization as you can. Pay attention to every detail, and let your dreams come to life in your mind, showing you what matters most to you. Think about where you want to be in the future and how you want to get there. See my post on how to use creative visualization to achieve your goals.
So, what will you choose to create? What goals will you try to meet?
Lay out your plan. Once you have a list of long term, medium term, and short term goals in mind, create a plan accordingly. How will you achieve these goals? How will you bring the life that you visualized into existence? Divide your large goals into achievable steps.
The alternative is to rely on luck and circumstance. Life is short, so claim your power to create the life you want to live. Set a few goals that will change your life, daily, weekly, monthly, and so on. Then use these steps to bring your goals into a tangible reality.
Write down everything you envision. Use as much detail as you can when jotting down what you remember. Write down the most important achievements that you focused on, but also the details about each. What matters most to you?
Note the things that stood out in your visualization.
Did you own your own home? Were you raising a family? Did you have a job that made you happy? Were you making a comfortable income? What other details stood out? How did you feel?

In order to achieve big things in your life, you must be willing to think big. You should dream big and envision your goals to make them happen. Achieving your targets and goals is best achieved when you can imagine every detail of what it is you want to achieve. Visualizing the “dream you” is an excellent way to bring your goals to the forefront when you’re trying to determine what matters most to you.
Put your future plans into action today. Vow to take a small step each day toward the future you have envisioned. Move forward every day, even if you are only taking small steps at a time. When you can picture what your desired life is like, you can better determine the goals you need to set and achieve to get there.
All it takes are small steps toward your desired future self, and you can achieve the life you deserve! When you’re busily working toward bringing your goals to life, you also feel happier and more fulfilled in your journey.
I do believe most things in your life are controlled by you, yourself except some medical issues.
I really like what you said about failures being a positive thing. I think it’s really important to have that perspective in life. We learn more from failures than when everything is great!
Thank you, Anita, I agree… it is through our failures that we learn the most about ourselves. We are provided with incredible tools and skills when we learn our limits 😉
As I got older I started to view failing as a positive outcome and learning experience. Most of us learn from our mistakes and thats a good thing!
Just focus on the positive and learn from the past mistakes.
