You know the saying, quality over quantity? This is a philosophy I personally adhere to. When it comes to your email subscribers, you want to do everything you can to show them that they – as a person – matter to you. Long gone are the days of selling for the sake of making the almighty dollar. In this technological age, more and more people are yearning for human connection.
Let’s take a look at some numbers. Let’s say you have a subscriber list of 1000 names and 10% choose to become clients. Of course that’s wonderful – that’s 100 clients (or regular readers).
But then let’s say you have a list of 250 subscribers and half of your subscribers become clients due to the fact you are taking those extra steps to ensure your are treating them like proper house guests … well, then that’s even better, all around! That’s 125 clients or readers and a solid community of loyal, valued subscribers. This is a sound platform that you can take creative leaps from.
People will become email subscribers of the lists of those they like and that they can relate to – just as you or I would. (Hint: it doesn’t serve anyone when you create a false persona for the sake of marketing or creating a ‘following’.) People are also generally more likely to become loyal subscribers once they feel appreciated. They want to feel and know themselves as a part of your community.
When they feel this, they are likely to want to reciprocate the consideration. So go ahead and make each and every subscriber feel super important and valued! Make the very most of your connection to everyone on your list, regardless of the size. You will feel better about your work, too.
Here are some ideas of how to ensure every email subscriber feels valued:
Be sure to include your email subscriber’s name in your messages.
With every communication you extend to your readers, be sure to personalize your message. When you begin with an opening like “Dear subscriber,” it can feel cold and impersonal. This certainly won’t help you create a connection! If you wish, you can find some apps that will personalize your emails.
There are also auto-responder messages you can try. You can do the coding yourself if you are savvy, or hire someone if you prefer. Take the time to find a way to personalize your email messages to your subscribers – this is the point. Believe me, it is the little details that matter and it begins with addressing your email subscribers by name and building a relationship.

Find Ways to Reward Your Email Subscribers.
Try analyzing your list and sending unique promotions to those subscribers who click through often, forward your information, or share it on social media.
There are of course people that will subscribe only to get the free information or training you are offering. You may find they have given you an email address they don’t often use (or send all your emails to a junk folder). There are also some that skip over your sign up forms altogether. It’s good to gather information on this type of activity, so that you can learn what may need tweaking in your approach.
So how do you know them? One tool that I like to use is Form Abandonment Addon by WPForms. It is super simple to set up and use. Simply download and install WPForms (if you don’t already have it), create your sign up form, and enable the Form Abandonment feature. That’s it! You can view abandoned form entries in WordPress by going to WPForms >> Entries and selecting the form you want to see entries for.
But then, there are subscribers who are truly interested in what you are offering them. Focus on these readers. So how do you know them? They click though to read your content. They download your materials from your website. In general, they express an interest in your writing, offerings and services. This is your community, and they are valuable because you are building trust with them. Be sure to take good care of these subscribers. Create unique gifts, offers and promos for them – this is a lovely way to let them know they are valued by you.
Connect With Your Readers on a Personal Level.
Another way to make your subscribers feel valued is to include them in your writing and creative projects. Try asking them what their thoughts and feelings are on things. Offer them a chance to contribute to your content and your community by writing guest posts or asking questions. You can offer them freebies and email challenges, or let them be the first to get access to new products, services and offerings.
Try out some of these ideas with your email subscribers and see where they take you. Of course and as always, have fun!
