One of my favorite things to do in the winter, when the entire family is spending more time inside the house, is to use an essential oil diffuser and get some aromatherapy happening in the home.
Not only can certain oils help to calm us down in the evening and lift our spirits in the morning, some blends can also help ward off germs and viruses.
Essential oils are nature’s answer for treating many health problems and for helping you to stay well. There are many different ways that you can use them. Read on to learn some of the most common and effective ways.
Use Some Oils In the Tub
When you’re taking a hot bath, adding a few drops of essential oils can help provide an aromatherapy effect. If you add some bath salts you can break up the essential oils and help them to be absorbed by the skin. This can help with muscle aches, stress, menstrual pain, and improve your skin.
Add Oils to Your Diffuser
You can diffuse oils in a variety of ways. Adding a few drops of essential oils to a pot of warm water on the stove will help to release the aroma. You can also purchase diffusers for rooms and even personal diffusers for the car or to wear around your neck. Keep a small bottle of your favorite stress busting essential oil in your purse or briefcase and inhale it when you’re in need of a little relaxation throughout a busy work day.
Try Essential Oils For Massage
When you massage the skin you boost circulation and you can relax sore muscles. Adding essential oils to your massage oil can help you to add more relaxation and health benefits. The oils will be absorbed by your skin and be made even more effective because of the circulation boost of massage.
Create Aroma-Therapeutic Lotions
To add essential oils to your body with very little effort you can add them to your favorite lotion. You can make your own lotion or just mix some oils with whipped coconut oil to make a quick, natural lotion.
Make an Essential Oil Infused Compress
When you have sore muscles, a bruise, or a wound you can use a compress to deliver essential oils. Just soak a cloth in warm water with a few drops of essential oils added to it. Then wrap the cloth around the affected area.
Essential Oils are Amazing for Cleaning
Essential oils can be added to natural cleansers such as vinegar and baking soda to boost cleaning power and to provide your home with a fresh, clean smell. They can help you to have a clean home without adding toxic chemicals to your home.
Essential oils, as you can see, are incredibly versatile. You can clean everything from your laundry to the toilet using essential oils. Essential oils can be used for so many wonderful purposes. Once you start with essential oils, you will find your collection to grow quite quickly, and you’ll find yourself always having some on hand!
Here is another creative and natural beauty recipe with essential oils that I came across and just had to share.
My mom always used to buy me cream perfumes that came from India inside of a lovely engraved marble container. Such sweet memories, and such sweet smells. Now, the idea of making my own is needless to say, more than enticing. I found this wonderful recipe from Design Sponge.
Enjoy!
Creating your own solid perfume is extremely satisfying. One of the joys of having a solid fragrance is that you can easily carry it with you, or even wear it on your body in a locket, without worrying about it spilling. I like to make perfume in small and beautiful containers that grow more precious and treasured with use.
What You Will Need:
- 1 1/2 tsp. jojoba oil (available at whole foods and natural grocery stores)
- 7 drops frankincense essential oil
- 7 drops of ylang ylang essential oil
- 5 drops fresh ginger essential oil
- 6 drops wild sweet orange essential oil
- heaping 1/2 tsp. grated beeswax
- eyedroppers (available at drug stores)
- small nonmetal pan for melting wax
- shot glass or small cup
- small compact or pillbox for finished perfume
What to Do:
Pour jojoba oil into the shot glass. Add the drops of all four essential oils to the jojoba oil and stir.
- Melt the heaping 1/2 teaspoon of beeswax.
- Remove from heat and stir in the jojoba/perfume blend.
- Reheat for just 10 seconds, stirring.
- Immediately pour the mixture into your container.
- Let cool undisturbed for 15 minutes.

I love essential oils in my diffuser, I also add some to my wardrobe to ward off moths etc, they make our clothes smell amazing too! I have tried massaging with oils, but I find the aroma too strong.
