For years, we’ve been putting toxic chemicals into our bodies that build up and make us feel tired and sick, regardless of whether we eat them or if they seep though our pores. And people are finally catching on that natural is better. If you are looking to get `back to basics`, and utilize the gifts and bounty of Mother Nature in your health and beauty protocol, be sure to read labels.
Chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate are highly toxic foaming agents which we really would do well to avoid rubbing into our scalps.
Most stores now have a line of “natural” beauty products. Unfortunately, they often come with a big price tag attached too. Often times many of these products are not actually “natural” so it does pay to do your homework to ensure you are getting what you pay for.
`Greenwashing` seems to be a bit of a big deal these days, where companies label their products as `green`, when really, there is still a massive chemical cocktail awaiting you within a pretty bottle.
Fortunately actually making beauty products yourself isn’t too difficult. So if you want beauty products that you know are natural and are also inexpensive, just make them yourself. Here are 5 quick and easy recipes you can make at yourself.
Face Mask
After you’re washed and nourished your skin, you can use grated cucumber or diluted lemon juice as a toner to help tighten your skin and close up your pores to close your pores and keep your skin looking great.
Hair Conditioner

When it comes to natural beauty products, these recipes are just the start. You can find hundreds of different combinations in natural beauty books, magazines, and on the internet. Or you can go to your kitchen cabinet and make your own special creations. And if you grow your own herbs and plants, you have even more wonderful tools at your fingertips.
We live in a very dry climate, so deep moisturizing is necessary here. We are blessed to have a wild rose bush that grows in the front yard and blooms approximately 2 – 3 times each summer. I am sure to keep an eye on, and collect the rose petals as they fall for using in home body and hair care products. I ask for the plant to remain in abundant health, and give thanks for its beauty and generosity.
The winter months are even drier, so plenty of baths with body oils and essential oil blends are also a must! I prefer grapeseed oil with blends of mint oils for awakening, and lavender or patchouli and sandalwood for relaxing. This is especially lovely when followed up with a post-bath rubdown with coconut oil … mmm!

I’ve been doing the “no-poo” method for years on my hair and I love it. I have been making my own hair care products, but I haven’t tried to make any other body care products. Thanks for the info!

Thanks Tammy! I have been a huge fan of all things in the way of herbal body care and aromatherapy, ever since I bought my first bottle of herbal shampoo. Nothing quite matched that feeling of having those blissful scents hovering around my nose 😉 Presently, I am really into blending my own body oils along with using pure coconut oil on my skin after a bath or shower. Heaven!
