Let’s take a moment to go over the oatmeal scrub ingredients and their benefits:
Oatmeal
Oatmeal reduces skin irritation and helps to soothe inflammation. For as long as I can recall, I have had recurring bouts of eczema, and oatmeal has helped to both soothe and heal my skin.
Oatmeal contains saponins, which are deeply skin cleansing – so it is super effective for helping to clear acne breakouts. Colloidal oatmeal can be mixed with water to make a thick paste and relieve itchy skin, perfect for baths too! Oatmeal is deeply moisturizing as well.
Oatmeal is a great natural remedy for relieving dry skin and eczema.
It can be used to soothe redness and irritation, as oatmeal is highly anti-inflammatory. Because it’s gentle on skin, it’s also a great option for those with sensitive skin. Oatmeal can even act as a natural exfoliant when combined with other ingredients like yogurt or honey. With its multiple skin-nourishing properties, it’s no surprise that oatmeal has been used for centuries as a natural way to pamper your skin.
Brown Sugar
Brown sugar is a wonderful, natural skin exfoliant. It is also a natural source of glycolic acid, which is all the rage these days in skin care products due to it containing alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA).
AHA molecules are small enough to penetrate skin deeply and loosen skin cell bonds, which in turn kickstarts the growth of new cells. Brown sugar is a natural moisturizer too, as it draws moisture in from the environment and transfers it into the skin. And if all of that wasn’t enough, it can prevent acne and help to diminish scars as well!
In-depth research has shown that with regular use, AHA and brown sugar can reduce fine lines, promote collagen production, and result in pleasant hydration. Adding them to your skincare routine may be the perfect way to fight wrinkles and signs of aging, while keeping skin looking and feeling healthy.
Raw Whole Milk
Raw whole milk can help to clear up breakouts of acne, while cleansing and moisturizing. Did you know that women have used raw milk on their skin for centuries? You can easily cleanse your skin before bed by dipping a cotton ball into some raw milk and gently massaging the face with it to remove whiteheads and blackheads – rinse the milk afterward.
Raw milk is also full of natural ingredients that can help to hydrate and nourish the skin. It contains healthy fats, vitamins, and protein which can help to make skin soft, smooth, and youthful. With regular use, raw milk can help to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots. Plus, it can help to reduce irritation or inflammation that can occur on the skin, keeping it healthy and soft.
Add some green tea to raw milk and create a lovely, cooling and soothing toner.
If you take some ripe papaya and mash it with a bit of honey and raw milk, you will have a face mask to help diminish fine lines and wrinkles. And of course, there is always the allover beautifying milk bath, potentially made famous by none other than Cleopatra.
Eggs
Eggs can nourish your skin with so many much-needed vitamins and minerals, including: vitamin A, selenium, iodine, vitamin B12, B2, iron, calcium, phosphorus and potassium. Eggs can firm the skin, treat acne, and help to close up pores. They can rejuvenate the skin while helping to treat oily skin.
These vitamins and minerals can also help to reduce wrinkles, fight off free radicals and toxins, improve skin elasticity, and treat dark circles and under-eye bags. They can also help to lighten age spots, and help to remove impurities from the skin. Plus, they are a great source of protein – essential for healthy-looking skin and hair. All of this makes eggs an impressive skin-care powerhouse!
Eggs are also a great way to boost collagen production, which is essential for skin health and gives skin its elasticity and firmness. Collagen can also help to protect against UV damage caused by the sun, so regular consumption of eggs may help to reduce skin damage.
And, since eggs are packed with amino acids, they can also help to reduce inflammation and slow the signs of aging. Furthermore, they are a great source of antioxidants, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and provide a natural glow. Eating eggs on a regular basis can certainly make a positive contribution to the health of your skin.
Here are some other super simple home facial ideas:
To treat acne, create a face mask of 1 egg white and 1 tbsp of honey – then rinse it off once it dries. For a lovely and nourishing anti-aging mask, mix 1 egg white with 2 tbsp of grated carrot and 1 tbsp of raw milk. Leave this mask on for about 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water. This is so nice right before bed.
For an exfoliating treatment, use oatmeal and yogurt – mix 1/2 cup of oatmeal with 1/4 cup plain yogurt, and rinse off with warm water after 15 minutes. The oatmeal will work to dissolve dead skin cells and help with breakouts and other skin irritations. And to get rid of that dreaded blackhead, try a mask created with 1/2 banana and 1 tbsp of honey. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. After performing these treatments, be sure to moisturize with a hydrating lotion for maximum benefit.
…but wait! I’m not done yet…
For a more intense face mask, mix a tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, and one egg yolk together. The olive oil will help to moisturize, the apple cider vinegar will work to fight inflammation, and the egg yolk acts as a natural emollient. Leave this mask are for 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. You’ll be amazed at the results!
If you need a revitalizing mask, blend one ripe banana and one egg yolk. The banana will help to keep skin hydrated, while the egg yolk helps to reduce wrinkles and regenerate the skin. Leave this mask on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with cold water. This mask is great for a quick pick me up and can be used multiple times per week.
To add to the beauty of homemade face masks, the vegan-friendly option of a banana and honey combo is an excellent alternative. Simply blend ½ a banana, 2 tsp of honey, and a few drops of lemon juice, apply the mask to the face, and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. This mask is great for those with sensitive skin, as its ingredients are known to be gentle and soothing. Plus, you can use the leftovers as a delightful treat in your morning smoothie.
